Six months into his career as a cop, John Nolan will be put to the test as he looks to figure out what kind of cop he ultimately wants to be.

The Rookie is an ABC network police procedural/comedy-drama series created by Alexi Hawley which premiered on October 16, 2018. The third season will premiere on January 3, 2021.

The Rookie airs on Sundays at 10pm on ABC

About the show

The series follows John Nolan, a 40-year-old man, who moves from his comfortable, small town life to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of being a police officer for the Los Angeles Police Department. He must navigate the dangerous, humorous and unpredictable world of a "young" cop, determined to make his second shot at life count.

Season 3



On October 26, 2017, ABC announced a straight-to-series order for The Rookie, starring Nathan Fillion, and written by Castle executive producer and co-showrunner Alexi Hawley. The series is produced by ABC Studios and The Mark Gordon Company. In November of 2018, it was picked up for full season of 20 episodes.

In January of 2018, Liz Friedlander signed on to direct and executive produce the pilot, production of which  began on March 7, 2018, with filming taking place in Los Angeles and New York.
