The Goldbergs is an American television sitcom series that first aired on September 24, 2013. Created by Adam F. Goldberg, it is loosely based on his family in the 1980s, complete with a childhood version of himself. On May 2020, ABC renewed the series for an eight season, which began airing on October 21, 2020 at 8 p.m with back-to-back episodes.
The series has spawned a spin-off, Schooled.
The Goldbergs airs on Wednesday 8|7c on ABC. The episodes are available for streaming the next day on Hulu.
About the series
Set in the 1980s in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania, Jeff and Beverly live together with their children, Erica, Barry, and Adam, the latter having the habit of documenting his everyday life with his camera. Albert "Pops" Solomon, Beverly's father, generally visits the family to provide advice or help out his grandchildren, more often than not behind his daughter's back.
The show is loosely inspired by the showrunner's, Adam F. Goldberg, childhood. Growing up, he had the habit of videotaping events, many of which are reenacted throughout the program. As such, the show features the '80s as experienced by a young boy. The present-day "Adult Adam" narrates every episode as taking place in "1980-something".

Production
The project originally received a script commitment from Fox in August 2011. After Adam Goldberg's previous show, Breaking In, was canceled, he did not want to wait for another pilot season to arrive and moved it to ABC, who agreed to immediately produce it. On January 11, 2013, Wendi McLendon-Covey was cast as the pilot's lead; later, Jeff Garlin and George Segal joined the cast.
