Agent Phil Coulson from the film "The Avengers" returns to lead a small, highly skilled group of agents into the field.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., or simply Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., is an American television series created for ABC by Joss Whedon, Jed Whedon, and Maurissa Tancharoen, based on the Marvel Comics organization S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division), a fictional peacekeeping and spy agency in a world populated with superheroes and numerous supernatural phenomena. It is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), sharing continuity with the films of the franchise.

About the show

Set after the events of The Avengers and Iron Man 3, and directly ties in with Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Civil War, and Avengers: Infinity War, the series ties in with the larger Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. follows Agent Phil Coulson as he puts together his team of agents to handle strange new cases, among which Project Centipede and their leader, "The Clairvoyant". Following the destruction of the agency in Winter Soldier, the second season deals with the rebuilding of the agency while dealing with Hydra, a faction of anti-superhuman S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, and a newly revealed superhuman race called the Inhumans. This battle comes to a conclusion in the third season, where Coulson also begins a secret mission to assemble the Secret Warriors, his own team of Inhumans.

Having rebuild the organisation to the point where it is once again seen as a legitimate organisation, Agent Coulson returns to his roots as a field agent in the fourth season, tasked with tracking down more enhanced people. Field work is dangerous, however, as proven in the fifth season, where Coulson and some of his team members are abducted to the space station Lighthouse in the year 2091, where they must try to save the remnants of humanity while figuring out how to get home. Even after succeeding to return to the present, they receive no rest as they must then fight to prevent the future they saw from happening.

At the beginning of the sixth season, the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents divide into two groups: one heads to space to track down a team member, while the other remains on Earth to face a team of mercenaries. The seventh and final season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. finds the team jumping throughout time to once again save the Earth and prevent their enemies from eradicating S.H.I.E.L.D. from history.
